Company Implements Azure Site Recovery for Comrehensive Risk Mitigation Strategy
Project Summary: SWICKtech strategized and implemented a customized, comprehensive Disaster Recovery and Risk Mitigation plan for multi-site vehicle manufacturing facility.
Background: The manufacturer, with four Wisconsin locations, is owned and operated by its parent company, a global vehicle producer located in Europe. The Wisconsin facilities serve as the North American production headquarters for the organization. The manufacturer had an ongoing SafetyNET data backup solution for its 20 onsite servers with SWICKtech. In early 2020, the company decided to invest in a more thorough Disaster Recovery solution to protect the company’s most valuable data.
Project: SWICKtech worked with internal IT and key leaders at the manufacturer to plan for and carry out a Disaster Recovery plan, using Azure Site Recovery, to ensure production would continue running in the case of a disaster. A Recovery Time Objective (RTO) and Recovery Point Objective (RPO) were customized to ensure production servers could be recovered within 15 minutes, while less critical servers were backed up and could be recovered withing 24 hours. Upgraded networking equipment and highspeed internet to accommodate the project had to be installed to begin work.
Outcome: Thankfully, the company has not experienced a disaster but remains protected on its most sensitive equipment in case a failure, infection or another issue arises. Now leadership at the company have insight into their backup and disaster recovery status anytime they’d like as well as regular checks and alerting for peace-of-mind and accountability.
SWICKtech recommends performing nightly backups of server infrastructure. These backups play a pivotal role in protecting data and systems from accidental deletion and assisting with one-off file or system restores. Disaster Recovery, in contrast, is focused on implementing a system that will streamline the process of restoring critical data and systems should the need arise.
